Leininger Culture Care Scholarship Award |
The Leininger Culture Care Scholarship Award is intended for nurses who advance culture care nursing. The prestigious Award is given in honor of Dr. Madeleine Leininger and funded by Dr. Marilyn Ray. An Award of $1,000.00 is offered each year towards expenses for conference participation. Dr. Madeleine Leininger was the first nursing scholar to declare that "caring is the essence of nursing" and contributed to the creation of the International Association for Human Caring with caring science scholars. She is the founder of Transcultural Nursing and the Transcultural Nursing Society and the Council on Nursing and Anthropology. Dr. Leininger was my mentor for my PhD in Transcultural Nursing and the study of caring within the institutional culture and the development of the Theory of Bureaucratic Caring. I am happy to support students or faculty who are committed to applying for funding to support research, practice the education of transcultural caring and present their scholarship at the annual IAHC conference. The Droesbeke Caring Award was established to promote attendance at the annual IAHC research conference. This Award, established by Dr. Marilyn Ray, is given to honor the memory of her late husband Jim Droesbeke. Dr. Ray is a founder of the National Caring Research Conference (1978) later renamed the International Association for Human Caring (IAHC). |

Watson Student Award |
The Watson Student Award was established by the International Association of Human Caring (IAHC) to promote student participation in the annual IAHC research conference. This Award is named for and funded by Dr. Jean Watson, an international scholar of caring in nursing, and a founder of the National Caring Research Conferences (1978) later renamed the International Association for Human Caring (IAHC). |
The purpose of this award is to support participation of a student of nursing in the IAHC conference each year.
The focus of this award is to encourage student attendance at the annual research conference to enhance understanding of caring in nursing practice, education or research.
Applicants for this award must be a student enrolled at an accredited university pursuing a Baccalaureate, Masters, or Doctoral degree in Nursing.
Parker & Barry Community Caring Award |
The Parker & Barry Community Caring Award was established in 2013 t support attendance at the annual IAHC conference for scholar whose work advances the science and practice of community nursing grounded in the Community Nursing Practice Model. This Award was established by Dr. Marilyn Parker and Dr. Charlotte Barry, international scholars of caring science in nursing. The Award symbolizes a commitment to the promotion of understanding caring in community nursing. An award of $500.00 is offered toward expenses for conference participation. |

This Award was established by Drs. Anne Boykin and Savina O. Schoenhofer, international scholars of caring science in nursing. The Award symbolizes a commitment to the advancement of caring science and nursing practice grounded in the theory of Nursing As Caring. The Vicente Teves Locsin, Jr. Award for Research and Scholarship in Nursing

The Vicente Teves Locsin, Jr. Award for Research and Scholarship in Nursing is established to promote dissemination of research and other scholarly works focused on advancing the middle-range theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing. This award, established by Dr. Rozzano C. Locsin, is given in honor of his father whose guiding wisdom directed his pursuit of a career in nursing. As a result, Dr. Locsin was the first Filipino graduate of the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing program of the University of the Philippines in 1988. A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE), he is a renowned global scholar with honorary and visiting professorships in universities in Uganda, Thailand, and the Philippines. He is Professor Emeritus of Florida Atlantic University, USA, and Professor of Nursing at University of Tokushima, Japan. The purpose of the award is to inspire students, practitioners, researchers and faculty members to study and advance the integration of technology and caring in nursing from the perspective of the Theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing.
The focus of this award is to assist attendance at the annual conference of the International Association for Human Caring and to enhance the understanding and scholarship of nursing through caring and technology in education, research, administration and practice.
Shirley C. Gordon Award |
Shirley C. Gordon Award Dr. Shirley C. Gordon is an international scholar best known for her work caring for persons with chronic conditions that carry a stigma such as head lice infestations, genital herpes and facial muscle weakness. She is a Professor and Director of the Head Lice Treatment and Prevention Project of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University, USA. The Annual Award of $750 symbolizes her commitment to advancing the study of caring facilitated by the Theory of Shared Vulnerability. The Theory of Shared Vulnerability has been used across disciplines to guide education, research and practice. |

Marlene B. Turkel Award for the Advancement of Research in Caring Science |
The Marlene B. Turkel Award for the Advancement of Research in Caring Science was established to advance research in caring science. This award of $1000.00 is funded by Marian and Brooks Turkel in honor and memory of our mother-in-law and mother. Marlene Turkel was a scholar, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1954 with a dual degree in sociology and psychology and worked as a computer programmer for the United States Navy. Brook’s dad, Martin Turkel was also a student at the University of Pennsylvania at the same time and that is where they met. Marlene was very proud to be with us when I received my PhD from the University of Miami in 1997. She loved having a daughter-in-law who was a PhD prepared nurse and caring to her only child. She remains our spirit guide and inspiration. Dr. Turkel is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and has been an active member of the International Association for Human Caring (IAHC) for 30 years having served as Treasurer, and President. Brooks Turkel is the current Treasurer of the IAHC and was recognized in March 2018 as a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives. Dr. Turkel and Brooks Turkel are actively involved with the Watson Caring Science Institute (WCSI) and Brooks serves as President of the WCSI Board. |
Justin Z. Goldin Student Caring Science Award |
The Justin Z Goldin Student Caring Science Award was established in 2018 to promote student participation at the Annual IAHC Conference. The award is funded by Marlienne Goldin in memory of her son Justin Z. Goldin who embodied caring as an Emergency Medical Technician, a Volunteer at the World Trade Center on 9/11, and a Registered Nurse. After Justin attended the IAHC Conference in Australia he became an avid student of Caring Science. An award of $1000. 00 is offered to offset student expenses for conference participation. |
